About the Show

LITTLE BIG MOUTH:

In this bold and generational solo show, a grandmother’s wisdom, Georgia O’Keeffe’s ghost, and a six-year-old truth-teller join forces when one woman confronts the cost of being an artist in a world built to silence her. Spanning decades and matrilineal memory, Little Big Mouth is a raw and unflinching exploration of creativity under the pressures of womanhood—and what it takes to reclaim your rightful place on stage.

Penelope questions her rollercoaster journey, as she looks back on a chapter in her life of privilege – Oscars, world travel and outward success via her husband’s hard work and subsequent break in show business. She gets the family moved West, after acquiring an agent in L.A., and is uprooted again, betraying her true self for the sake of her husband’s career, wearing various masks for survival. Memories flash back to unfortunate childhood circumstances, struggles in Chicago, misunderstandings, judgements, and misogyny – muting herself as a young mom, and beyond – with as much quirky humor as possible. Using her only mentor, Georgia O’Keeffe; her granddaughter, Violet; her granny; and characters she played on stage, fierce and funny Penelope re-builds her history, bit by bit, and finally unmutes and unmasks, once and for all – for her sanity and for the sake of future generations.
